LAKEWOOD, Colo. –
Spurred on by a second straight double-double from Mikayla Barondeau and a lock-down defensive effort that held the host Cougars to just 21.3 percent shooting from the field, the Northern State University Wolves claimed a 59-42 victory over Colorado Christian University Saturday evening in a battle of NCAA Central Region opponents.

With the win, the Wolves improved to 2-1 on the young season, while the Cougars – who slipped a 61-60 win past Wayne State on Friday – fell to an even 1-1.

In a similar performance to a night previous, Barondeau made her presence known everywhere on the floor.  The junior forward scored 10 of her 20 points from the free throw line and also pulled down 13 rebounds.  Senior Jodi Reinschmidt added 12 points and nine boards.

None of the 12 players to see the court for CCU reached double figures in scoring.  Jessica Murdoch notched a team-best nine points off the bench for the Cougars.

The Wolves led from the start, pulling away from the game's only tie at 4-4 to lead by eleven at 29-18 at the break.  NSU then scored the first ten points of the second half, the last six of which came from Barondeau, to plant themselves firmly in the driver's seat for the duration.

Defensively, the Wolves forced CCU into 15 turnovers.  The Cougars were also just 2 of 16 from long range and recorded just five assists on the night.

The Wolves remain on the road and will play at Chadron State on Monday night in another in-region match-up.  That game marks the end of the Wolves' non-conference slate as they return home to host Concordia-St. Paul and St. Cloud State on Dec. 3-4.
