ALAMOSA, Colo. – The Northern State University soccer program came within inches of scoring a dramatic tying goal and forcing overtime for the second straight game, but a last second shot from junior defender Kendra Titze bounced harmlessly off the crossbar as time expired, leaving the Wolves with their second straight heartbreaker, a 2-1 loss at the hands of the Adams State College Grizzlies on Saturday.

The Wolves, who controlled much of the second half after tying the game at 1-1 just 55 seconds into the half, gave up the go-ahead goal in the 82nd minute on an Ashley Sales tally from the left flank.  NSU then gave up a pair of corner kicks to the Grizzlies before mounting a furious comeback effort in the final minute.

The Wolves had a pair of chances in that final minute as junior Kirbie Wages picked up a loose ball and sent it toward the net.  The ball, however, was knocked away at the last minute by a sliding Grizzly defender, allowing the Wolves a last-second chance with a corner kick.

Titze took the corner and sent a long shot sailing towards the net where it met with the crossbar as the clock ran out.

ASC, which won its first game since claiming a season-opening win over Wayne State last season, took the early lead on Saturday with a Kenzie Favero goal in the 13th minute.  Favero picked up a rebound shot off the foot of teammate Ashley Grover and stuck it back in the net.  That goal came just minutes after Kirsten Saunders just missed an opportunity to put the Wolves on the board.  Saunders' shot from the right flank ricocheted off the post, however, leaving the teams scoreless.

The Wolves, however, wasted little time getting on the board in the second half as junior Maggie Fedor put a chip shot in the net just over the keeper's hands.

NSU, now 0-2 on the year, will complete their 3-game season-opening swing through Colorado on Tuesday as they face Colorado Christian in Lakewood.  Game time for that match is set for 4 p.m. (Mountain time).
