PHOENIX, Ariz. – The Northern State University baseball team finished up their time in sunny Arizona Saturday with a 9-5 win over Mayville State.
With the win the Wolves improve to 4-8 overall on the year and 3-5 during their time in Phoenix.
Starting pitcher
Brock Pashen got injured while facing the first batter of the game, and was credited with a walk after that batter earned a base on balls. Enter
Dustin Harvey, who pitched five innings, gave up six hits and three earned runs, one walk, and struck out three Mayville State batters in earning the win. The Wolves then used three relief pitchers, starting with
Jon Bitz who went 1-2/3 innings, gave up two hits, one earned run and two walks, while striking out two batters.
Lucas Jung was the next Wolves' pitcher, going through 1-1/3 innings, giving up four hits, one earned run, one walk, and striking out one batter.
Nathan Zacher pitched the final inning, giving up no runs, hits, walks, and no strikeouts.
Offensively the Wolves were led by
Payton McCleary who went 3-5 with a double and a stolen base.
Andrew Lunsetter went 2-5 with three RBI on the day, and
Lucas Jung went 2-3 with a double, two RBI, and two runs scored.
Mayville State scored five runs on 12 hits, committed one error and left six runners on base. Northern State scored nine runs on 11 hits, committed one error and left nine runners on base in gaining their fourth win of the year.
Northern State University is an NCAA Division II affiliated school participating in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference and is located in Aberdeen, South Dakota.
