ABERDEEN, S.D. – The Northern State University wrestling team split the number of wins with the visiting Marauders of the University of Mary at their dual Wednesday night, but the Wolves were able to get more points in each of their wins to outscore their opponents on the way to earning their first conference victory of the season by a 24-18 score.

With the win, the Wolves improve to 4-8 overall and 1-6 in the Northern Sun.

Earning victories for the Wolves were Donnie Bowden at 174, Jared Little at 285, Corbin Surat at 125, James Marx at 133, and Joe Hirt at 141.

Bowden got the Wolves' points flowing early, when after leading the entire match, he was able to put Lance Piatz' shoulders to the mat at 6:04 of their match to put the Wolves up 6-0.  After two subsequent Mary wins by decision, Jared Little earned a 9-4 victory over Kevin McCleary to put the Wolves back on top by a 9-6 score.  Corbin Surat then earned a victory by a Mary forfeit to take the score to 15-6, and James Marx won an exciting 10-6 decision over Dan Sabin to put the Wolves up 18-6.  The two teams then traded six points a piece as Mary picked up a forfeit win at 141 and the Wolves Joe Hirt got a forfeit victory at 149 to put the score at 24-12.  Mary would win the final two matches of the night by decisions to bring the final score to 24-18.

The Wolves are next in action at the North Regional on March 1st which will be held at Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall, Minnesota.
