ABERDEEN, S.D. – After posting four straight shutouts, the Northern State University women's soccer team allowed its first goal in more than 494 minutes of play en-route to a 2-2 tie against the visiting St. Cloud State University Huskies Sunday afternoon in cold and extremely windy conditions at Jerde Field. The tie extends NSU's unbeaten streak to six games, two of which have ended in ties.
The Wolves now sit at 10-6-2 overall and 6-3-2 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play, while SCSU is an even 7-7-2 overall and 5-5-2 in the league.
NSU junior Kati Bronson (Spokane, Wash.) scored two goals, one in each half, to give the Wolves a shot at coming away with the win, but SCSU's Amy Lindstrom found the net with less than five minutes left in the game to force overtime.
Despite an 8-4 Husky advantage in shots during the overtime periods, neither team was able to find the net in the sudden-death OT.
Kyrsten Flynn-Wallace scored SCSU's first goal in the 33rd minute, breaking NSU's shutout streak of nearly 500 minutes in the process. Both Husky goals were unassisted.
Freshman midfielder
Kailee Hyland (Friendswood, Texas) picked up a pair of assists off free kicks for the Wolves. Freshman
Kaylee McDonald (Ramsey, Minn.) also picked up an assist on the Wolves' second goal, taking Hyland's free kick and sending a soft touch to Bronson in front of an empty net.
Each team picked up a yellow card in the physical game, as they combined for 31 total fouls. Both teams also took nine corner kicks, while the Huskies had both corners in overtime.
The game marked the end of the home portion of the season, as they travel to Winona State next Saturday and Upper Iowa on Sunday for the final two games of the regular season. Saturday's game is slated for 7 p.m., while kickoff on Sunday is at 1 p.m.
