MOORHEAD, Minn. –
The Northern State University Wolves scored a touchdown with less than a minute left in the game to get to within three points of the Minnesota State University Moorhead Dragons on Saturday, but, after recovering the ensuing onside kick, ran out of time to get the winning touchdown, dropping a heartbreaker by a final score of 26-29.

The Wolves held leads of 6-0 and 13-10 in the first half, but couldn't hang on in the second half as the Dragons escaped with the narrow 3-point win.

Sophomore quarterback Eric Ellingson completed 26 of 42 passes for 261 yards and three touchdowns, including a 30-yarder to senior Tavis Ve'e with 48 seconds left in the game.  Ellingson also recorded a 49-yard TD run, his longest of the season, midway through the fourth quarter.

Sophomore wide receiver Marty Ponzo also had a big day, notching his second 100-yard receiving day of the season, catching eight passes for 115 yards.  Both marks were game-bests in a game of passing offenses.

Ve'e also had 48 yards and a pair of touchdowns through the air, while junior wide-out Brian Jark had four catches for 13 yards, including the game's first score on a 5-yard pass from Ellingson just five minutes into the contest.

Linebacker Chris Hurd had nine tackles to lead the way defensively, while senior Chris McClellan kept the Wolves' streak alive with yet another blocked kick, this one coming on a Logan Johnson extra point attempt after MSUM's final TD of the game.

The Wolves, now 1-8 overall and 1-7 in NSIC play, remain on the road, traveling to Southwest Minnesota State University next Saturday for a 1 p.m. contest in Marshall.
