ABERDEEN, S.D. -
Senior goalkeeper Kit Grace (Littleton, Colo.) notched her third straight shutout while sophomore Kirbie Wages (Great Falls, Mont.) scored her second goal of the season on Sunday as the Northern State University Wolves claimed a tight 1-0 road win over the host Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference women's soccer action.
The win, NSU's third in its last four games, improves the Wolves' record to 9-6-1 overall and 5-3-1 in the conference, while UMD falls to 5-9-2 overall and 5-3-2 in NSIC play.  NSU's lone tie of the year came on Saturday, a scoreless double-overtime affair at Bemidji State.  The two games, combined with last weekend's 2-win performance, gives NSU a 4-game unbeaten streak, its best and first such streak of the season.
Sunday's game also looked like it might be headed for overtime, as the teams battled to a scoreless draw for 86 minutes of play before Wages controlled a UMD turnover and sidestepped the Bulldog goalkeeper Hannah Bengtston to find the net.
The shot, Wages' lone shot of the day, was one of just three shots on goal on the day for the Wolves.  UMD had seven shots on goal, forcing the Wolves to rely heavily on Grace to keep the Bulldogs off the scoreboard.
With the win, Grace moved to 6-2-1 on the year with three full shutouts.  The senior also spent time in goal in NSU's season-opening win, a 3-0 blanking of Adams State on Aug. 29.
The Wolves will return home next weekend to host Concordia-St. Paul on Saturday and St. Cloud State on Sunday.  Both games are slated for 1 p.m. starts at Jerde Field.
