ABERDEEN, S.D. -
The Northern State University Wolves didn't let the the cold weather slow down their offense on Saturday as they rallied back from an early 1-0 deficit to score three unanswered goals to take a 3-1 victory over the visiting Minnesota State Moorhead Dragons in Northern Sun Intercollegiate women's soccer action.
Sophomore Maggie Fedor (Minticello, Minn.) had one goal and an assist while freshman forward Kaylee McDonald (Ramsey, Minn.) scored her team-leading ninth goal of the season in the win, lifting the Wolves to 6-5-0 overall and an even 3-3-0 in the conference.
MSUM fell to 5-5-1 on the year and 2-4-1 in league play.
The Dragons, who out-shot the Wolves by a 25-20 margin on the day, drew first blood when Katherine Adams scored an unassisted goal on a rebound shot in front of the goal in the 18th minute.
The Wolves, however, answered less than three minutes later on Fedor's sixth goal of the season, a mid-range shot from the right side into the left corner of the net.  Junior midfielder Kati Bronson (Spokane, Wash.) picked up the assist on the preceeding free kick.
Junior Summer Swan (Oregon City, Ore.) then scored what would prove to be the game-winner in the 26th minute when she headed a Kendra Titze (Aberdeen, S.D.) crossing pass past Dragon goaltender Andrea Pearson to make it a 2-1 game.
McDonald then added an insurance goal for the Wolves just before the half when she took Fedor's pass from the middle and slipped past a defender to score from the left side.
Neither team was able to get on the board in a physical second half, which featured four Dragon corner kicks and a yellow card.  MSUM also outshot the Wolves 18-5 in the second stanza, but senior goalkeeper Kit Grace (Littleton, Colo.) made five shots, most in traffic, to keep the Dragons out of the scoring column.
The Wolves will be back in action Sunday afternoon, taking on the University of Minnesota, Crookston in another NSIC matchup.  NSU will be going for their first back-to-back wins of the season in that game, which is slated to begin at 1 p.m. at Jerde Field.
