ABERDEEN, S.D. - The Northern State swim team picked up their first-ever win on Friday afternoon, topping the University of Minnesota, Morris 88-85. Freshman
Kristen Bouwens won two events to help propel the Wolves ahead of the Cougars. The win came at Northern's last home meet of the season. The squad heads to the University of Minnesota Challenge on February 8 and 9.
Bouwens took first place in the 200-yard freestyle with a personal best time of 2:23.85. She also topped the field in the 100-yard breaststroke with a mark of 1:22.28. Also performing well for the Wolves was sophomore
Teresa Pengilly, who swam a personal best time in the 1000-yard freestyle (13:38.72), and
Rebecca Morse, who shattered her previous personal best time in the 500-yard freestyle with a mark of 6:54.67.
The number of NSU athletes posting new PRs shows the weekly improvements made by
Elyce Kastigar's team in their inaugural season. The Wolves are 1-6 on the year.
