Aberdeen, S.D. - The Northern State men's basketball team downs in-state rival Augustana College 75-68 on Saturday evening in a non-conference game at the Elmen Center in Sioux Falls to pick up their tenth win of the season.
NSU started out slow, trailing most of the first half. A three-pointer by Luke Wickswith seven minutes remaining gave the Wolves their first lead of the night and sparked a 9-1 run by the Wolves. Wicks had nine first half points on three of four shooting from behind the arc. Augustana managed to tie the game 34-34 with a three pointer and two free throws in the last minute of the half.
The Wolves and Vikings came back in the second half and battled back and forth until red-shirt freshman Derek Hoelleinhit back to back three-pointers to give the Wolves a 47-45 lead with fourteen minutes left in the game. This proved to be a lead that the Wolves would not relinquish.
NSU's Kevin Ratzschled all scorers with 18 ponts, including 13 in the second half. Ratzsch also was the Wolves leading rebounder with eight boards on the night. Luke Wicks came off the bench for the Wolves totaling 11 points, six rebounds, and five assists in 28 minutes of action. Craig Nelsonscored ten points, all of which came in the second half and Levi Hamiltonadded another ten points for the Wolves.
Northern State finished the night shooting 56 percent from the field. The Wolves also made 9 of 15 3-point attempts. Augustana, meanwhile, shot 40 percent from the floor and made just 3 of 12 3-point attempts.
