Wolves Make Roadkill Out Of Peacocks

FAYETTE, Iowa - The Northern State volleyball team (9-8, 4-5 NSIC) made quick work out of the Upper Iowa Peacocks (4-16, 0-9 NSIC) Saturday afternoon, taking a 3-0 win with scores of 30-20, 30-24, and 30-17. The team had one of their best hitting performances of the year and also abused the Peacock passers with ten aces on the match.

Northern opened the match with a .379 hitting average in game one, downing 14 kills with just three errors. They hit above the .300 mark in games one and three, but a sluggish .081 mark in the second brought their average to .257 on the match. The Wolves had 43 total kills to UIU's 29. From the serving line, the Wolves seemed to pick off passers one at a time and had ten aces in the match. They came up with 54 digs and seven blocks, as well.

Middle blocker Kelsey Aden led all players with 11 kills on the afternoon. Jill Rasmussen had nine kills, while Stephanie Perez notched a .545 hitting average with seven kills and just one error in 11 attempts. Rasmussen had four block assists. Megan Gilbraith had four ace serves and 21 assists in the match. Stephanie Nygaard led the defense with 14 digs.

The Peacocks received eight kills from Shea Meyermann, who tied Heidi Laitinen for the digging lead with 11. Upper Iowa managed five ace serves against the Wolves.

Northern State returns to action Wednesday night, hosting currently ranked #8 Southwest Minnesota State at 7:00 pm at Wachs Arena.
