Turnquist entered the 2023 NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships as the seventh seed at 149 pounds, where he earned All-American honors for the first time in his career with a third place finish and 5-1 record. He opened the championship with a 21-2 technical fall over Dallas Wilson of Mount Olive. His lone loss of the tournament came in the quarterfinals to eventual national champion Josiah Rider of Adams State before he won his blood round bout 9-0 against Jacob Simpson of West Liberty. On the second day of competition Turnquist tallied three wins over wrestlers seeded sixth or higher, defeating No. 3 Nick Young of Gannon 8-6, No. 1 Jacob Ealy of Pitt-Johnstown 8-4, and No. 6 Jalen Spuhler of Wisconsin-Parkside 10-5.
