Dr. Chelsee Shortt

Dr. Chelsee Shortt serves as the Faculty Athletic Representative (FAR) at Northern State University, advocating for the academic and athletic success of student-athletes. Dr. Shortt holds a Ph.D. in Physical Education from the University of South Carolina, a Master’s in Physical Education from the University of Northern Iowa, and a Bachelor’s in Physical Education from Coe College, where she competed in cross country in 2006 and 2007. 

As an Assistant Professor and the Chair of the Sports Sciences Department at Northern State University, her research interests encompass physical literacy, human performance, and exercise adherence. In addition to her academic roles, she officiates volleyball for the SDHSAA, NAIA, NCAA, and JVA/AAU Club. Dr. Shortt is committed to supporting student-athletes and their development on and off the field. 

Dr. Shortt was honored by the university as the 2023 Thunder Award winner for Professor of the Year and 2024 Early Career Faculty Award winner.Â
