Terrell Newton enters his first season as an assistant coach for the men’s basketball program in the fall of 2026. Newton joined Northern State following a stint as a basketball specialist with the Sanford Sports Acacemy.
With SSA, Newton served as the lead instructor for individual, small, and large group training sessions. In addition, he served as a coach for the academy, directed camps and clinics, and handled the day-to-day operations of the SAA program.
He opened his collegiate career as a graduate assistant and assistant coach at Dakota Wesleyan University on Wilber’s Tiger staff. From 2019-21 he served as the head girls basketball coach and athletic director at Miller High School, going 28-17 overall. Newton also spent time with the Tri-State Ambush Basketball Academy.
Following graduation, Newton worked as a scouting and player recruitment coordinator for the Dakota Magic in the NBLA.
He earned both his bachelor’s in Sports Management and master’s in Education Administration and Policy from Dakota Wesleyan. Newton opened his collegiate playing career at Wayne State University and closed out his final two seasons at DWU. The Tigers ranked first in the country in assist-to-turnover ratio, assists, assists per game, and 3-point field goals in his career. He earned all-conference accolades as a senior and DWU advanced to the NAIA round of 16. As a member of the 2015-16 national runner-up team, Newton was inducted into the DWU Hall of Fame in 2025.
