Justin Wieck is entering his second year as an assistant coach for the Northern State men’s basketball program under head coach Paul Sather. Previous to Northern State, Wieck spent four years on staff at the University of Iowa as head video coordinator, working under head coaches Steve Alford and Todd Lickliter, both NABC Coaches of the Year.
Wieck assisted the Iowa coaches in preparing opponent scouting reports and video packages, as well as providing breakdown clips of Iowa practice and game video. Wieck also served as on-campus recruiting coordinator, helping to land two freshman all-Big
Ten players in the 2009 class, as well as a Top 20 recruiting class nationally in 2010.
Wieck served three years as assistant camp director for the University of Iowa Summer Basketball Camps, which included on-campus camps and satellite camps within the state. Wieck also helped with academic monitoring and community outreach programs within the local community.
Wieck joined the Hawkeye program as a walk-on after two successful years at Kirkwood Community College and earned a scholarship for his senior season. In his two seasons as a Hawkeye player, Wieck was a member of two NCAA Tournament teams that won a combined 46 games. As a senior, Iowa posted a 25-9 overall record in 2006 and won the Big Ten Conference post-season tournament in Indianapolis. Wieck also earned academic all-Big Ten recognition in his final season.
Wieck earned his bachelor's degree in finance in 2006 and his master's degree in sports administration in 2008, both from the University of Iowa. He and his wife Laura, a special education teacher, reside in Aberdeen.
