Northern State University Athletics

Michael Kunes joined the Northern football coaching staff in January 2008 as a graduate assistant, working with the defense as the LIZ-RIP coach. Kunes is a native of Weedville, Pennsylvania and a graduate of St. Mary's Area High School in St. Mary's, Pennsylvania, where he was a dual sport athlete in both football and track and field. Kunes is a recent graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP), where he received his bachelor's degree in Physical Education and Sport. While an undergrad, Kunes joined the IUP football staff in 2007 as a student assistant working with the defensive ends. There, he helped IUP to an 8-2 record, advancing into the second round of the NCAA Division II playoffs.

At Northern, Kunes will be completing his Master's Degree in Physical Education and receiving a Teaching Certification.
