Maia Tupou

Maia Tupou enters his 18th season with the program in the fall of 2019. Tupou’s coaching career started in 2004 as a student assistant with the Wolves, coaching the defensive line. The 2020 season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. 

Two Wolves receivers earned NSIC All-Conference accolades in 2018, as Dakota Larson and Jacob Streit were named to the offensive second team. Larson was also tabbed as the NSIC Offensive Newcomer of the Year after leading the team with 881 yards receiving and seven touchdowns. 

In the fall of 2016, Tupou coached senior Zachery Barber to an All-NSIC honorable mention selection. From 2006 to 2010 Tupou was the linebackers coach for the Wolves and moved to the offensive side of the ball in 2010, coaching the running backs. He has spent the last four seasons leading the NSU wide receivers. A 2002 transfer to Northern State from Sacramento City College, Maia is a proud Northern State alumn.

While at NSU, Tupou played at linebacker, where he racked up 108 tackles in 21 career games over his two seasons.

Tupou, a native of Elverta, Calif. majored in Fitness Management with a coaching minor at NSU. He currently resides in Aberdeen with his sisters and brother-in-law.
