Prep: Schmitt comes to the Wolves after anchoring the St. Thomas More High School offensive line for three years and 33 straight games under the direction of head coach Wayne Sullivan. A 2011 All-Black Hills Conference pick and team MVP, he helped lead the Cavaliers to a third straight BHC championship last fall. The Cavaliers notched 2,592 rushing yards and 1,802 passing yards in 2011. In Schmitt's three-year stint as a starter, the team has notched more than 12,000 total yards on offense and compiled an overall record of 26-7, advancing to the state title game (Class 11B) in 2009. Schmitt is also an Honorable Mention All-Region player for the STMHS baseball squad, which earned the 2009 state title and advanced to the final four in the 2010 playoff season. Schmitt, whose father also attended Northern State from 1983-1987, is also active in FCA and as a senior retreat and Teen Life Choice leader.
