Cary Hornaman // Baseball
Bio Information: At Northern State University, Cary Hornaman was a starter on the baseball team. In his first three seasons, he was selected to the All-District team as a right fielder, hitting over .300 each seasons. In addition, Northern State recorded three straight District Championships.
After his junior year, Hornaman was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in 1978. He played in both Billings, Montana and Eugene, Oregon for affliates of the Reds, while also attending traning camp in Tampa, Florida. After a full season and training camp, he decided education was more important to him and returned to Northern to finish his education.
Hornaman has tallied multiple honors over the years as the 2000 Athlete of the Century at Roncalli High School, and 2007 Northern State Hall of Fame inductee, and 2018 South Dakota Basketball Hall of Fame inductee. , Aberdeen, South Dakota.
Professional Information: Hornaman played for two teams in the 1978 season; the Eugene Emeralds of the Northwest League (Short-Season A) and the Billings Mustangs of the Pioneer League (Rookie). He appeared in 27 contests, recording a .257 batting average and .296 on base percentage with 26 hits, three homeruns, and 12 RBI.
