Tanner Berg // Track and Field // Hammer Throw
Bio Information: Tanner Berg was a 7-time All-American and 2022 National Champion for the men's track and field program. Berg entered the 2022 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships with the top throw in the nation and defended that placing with the first National Championship of his career. The Wolves graduate student held his position at the top beginning with his second toss of the day, a 68.77m heave, which would have sealed the National Championship alone. He extended that to 69.40m on his next attempt and sealed the victory on his final toss of the day. Berg threw 69.61m (228-04.00) on his sixth attempt, defeating the national runner-up, Austin Combs of Findlay, by 1.7-meters.
Berg earned the first All-American honors of his career from the 2019 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in the weight throw. The sophomore took 11
th overall in the event, as a second team All-American. He threw 19.52m (64-0.5 feet) on his first toss of the day. He added the second weight throw honors of his career in the spring of 2020. Berg qualified in the weight throw and held the top mark in the event, throwing 21.50m. He was the NSIC Champion in the event and earned USTCCCA All-Region accolades. His third All-American honors came in the weight throw at the 2021 NCAA Indoor Championships, where Berg took third with a 21.68m toss. He then went on to place 12th, earning second team honors in the shot put, throwing 16.00m.
Berg tallied the fifth All-American honors of his career in the hammer, taking seventh overall with a 65.83m (215-11.00) toss at the 2021 NCAA Outdoor Championships. The mark was Berg’s third throw of the day and was the top NSIC finisher in the event. The Watertown native closed out his indoor career as the 2022 NCAA Runner-up in the weight throw, tossing 22.40m. The honor marked the sixth All-American award of his Northern State career. He capped off his Wolves career in May of 2022, winning the NCAA Division II National Championship in the hammer throw.
