Bio Information: Vern Jark has excelled both in his collegiate years at Northern and in his professional field as a coach. While at NSU, he participated in three sports: football, baseball and basketball, earning him a total of 12 letters. In baseball post-season action, he earned recognition for this team effort all four years, which led him to a 13th-round Free Agent Draft by the Chicago Cubs in 1976. As a basketball player, Jack led the SDIC Conference in free-throw percentage in 1975, ranking eighth in NAIA nationally. Jark earned All-Conference SDIC Honorable Mention in 1972 and 1975 and All-Region Baseball Team Honorable Mention in 1973 and 1975.
Professional Information: Drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the 13
th round of the 1976 MLB June Amateur Draft. Appeared in 113 games in the minors from 1976-77, where he hit .309 with 103 hits, 11 doubles, 25 RBI, 13 stolen bases, 24 walks, and two triples. As a second baseman, Jark tallied 74 putouts with a .972 fielding percentage.
