The NSU Cheer Squad, praised for its visually exciting and high energy style, perform at all home football and men's basketball games. During the season, the team also entertains at various game halftimes, pep rallies, and other spirit events.

The squad performs pre-game through to the game's end, both on the sidelines and on center court. The cheerleaders provide spirit and raise the level of fan support on the home court and at many NSU events. The Northern State University Cheerleading Squad is one of the most visible and enthusiastic promotional student groups on campus.

The team is selected in September in a tryout/audition format. The tryout format is typically a cheer and short dance taught over a two-hour period, with selection of team members made that same night by a panel of qualified judges. Additional try-outs are held in the spring of each year, as well.

All game, performance and choreography choices are made by the team members, under the guidance of the coach. We are looking for students who love to dance and entertain, be part of a close-knit team and experience what being a dance team student-athlete is all about. For information about becoming a cheerleader, please contact Brandy Schnabel at Brandy.Schnabel@hotmail.com.

The squad’s goal is to support intercollegiate athletics and Northern State University. That support is directed into three major areas, as follows: (1) to raise the level of fan support for intercollegiate athletics; to lead in positive vocal and visual support for the team; to project that support and solicit that support from the Northern fans; (2) to participate in this athletic activity by performing; to perfect this athletic activity for keeping the crowd’s attention/direction focused on the field/floor where the intercollegiate activity is taking place, and for the entertainment and competitive purposes; and (3) to serve as public relations ambassadors of intercollegiate athletics and NSU; to appear at University functions, activities and programs, at charitable and public causes to promote intercollegiate athletics and NSU.

The Northern State University Cheerleading Squad is staffed and managed by the Northern State University Athletic Department
