SOFTBALL DROPS TWO IN FIRST DAY OF SPACE COAST GAMES

GAME ONE: PURDUE NORTHWEST 9, NORTHERN STATE 1
  • The Wolves struggled in their first game back in almost a month, tallying one run, one hit and two walks at the plate, along with four strikeouts at the rubber
  • Mckenzie recorded her first loss of the season, pitching four innings and allowing seven hits and four runs while collecting three strikeouts
  • Purdue Northwest crossed home once in the second inning and three times in the fourth to take a 4-0 lead at the end of four innings
  • Northern State scored its sole run of the game on a solo home run by catcher Emma Owens to left-center field
  • The Pride tallied five more runs over the next two innings to end the game early
  • In the field, Sydney Anderson led the team with six putouts, while Owens followed with four
  • PNW's Chloe Tanner pitched a complete game, recording three strikeouts and two walks
  • Both Jessy Del Toro and Gracie Jensen went 2-for-3 at the plate for Purdue Northwest, with Del Toro notching a double and a stolen base

GAME TWO: MALONE 10, NORTHERN STATE 1
  • A nine-run inning for Malone proved to be the difference in Northern State's 10-1 loss to the Pioneers to cap off the first day of games for the Wolves
  • NSU recorded one run on five hits and four strikeouts at the rubber
  • Malone reached paydirt first in the bottom of the second inning when Jessie Crookston crossed the plate to give the Pioneers a 1-0 lead
  • After a three-up, three-down inning by the Wolves at the top of the third, Malone added nine runs in the third, going through their order and more in the inning
  • Northern State got its bats rolling in the fourth inning, notching its only run of the game. Corina Coppersmith crossed the plate after reaching on a single
  • Both teams went scoreless for the remainder of the game, which ended after the fifth inning
  • At the rubber, Riley O'Connell recorded the loss with Wanner and Dessa Bryant also throwing pitches in the game
