Aberdeen, S.D. - Northern State's Sloan Johannsen (wrestling) and Tevan Bryant (softball) are this week's South Dakota Army National Guard Athletes of the Week following their performances last weekend.
Johannsen went 2-0 this weekend boosting his record to 21-6 on the season. He helped the Wolves shutout Minot State and was one of two victories against No. 13 St. Cloud State. The sophomore faced off for a combined 1:55 in the two wins. The South Dakota native defeated Austin Garcia of Minot in a 16-0 technical fall at 1:42. Johannsen pinned Ben Aranda of St. Cloud State just 13 seconds into the first period.
Bryant hit .636 in the Wolves opening weekend of the season, which leads the Northern Sun. She recorded a team leading seven hits, including a double. The senior tallied a team best 11 RBI, ranking second in the NSIC. The South Dakota native had three multiple hit games and added a weekend high four RBI in Northern's win over UMary. Bryant notched a .727 slugging percentage and .643 on base percentage in the Wolves 3-1 weekend.
