NORTHERN STATE STORYLINES

  • The Wolves enter the second week of NSIC play following a loss to the University of Sioux Falls
  • USF pulled away from NSU late in the fourth quarter, with the game seeing four tie scores and multiple big plays throughout
  • In the opener, Northern tallied 28 points, 102.0 yards rushing, 235.0 passing, and 337.0 yards pf total offense
  • They converted 45.5% on third down and 50.0% on fourth down, while USF went 9-of-15 on third down and 1-1 on fourth down
  • The Wolves went 1-for-2 in the redzone and tallied 3.0 sacks for a total loss of 25 yards
  • Daniel Britt led the offense, throwing for 186 yards and two touchdowns and rushing for 73 yards and one touchdown
  • Zach Kraft was Britt's target for both receiving scores, the first touchdowns of his career, notching 98 total yards
  • Jake Adams picked up where he left off, recording a single game career high 21 tackles
  • On special teams, Cooper Eisenbeisz put together 143 returns yards, including a 94-yard return touchdown to open the second half

WAYNE STATE STORYLINES

  • The Wildcats continue NSIC play with a 1-1 record overall and 1-0 mark in the Northern Sun
  • WSC was picked sixth overall and fourth in the NSIC South by the league coaches in early August
  • Wayne State opened the season with a 28-21 loss to Nebraska Kearney and rebounded with a 42-7 victory over UMary in the league opener
  • Through two contests, the Wildcats are averaging 31.50 points, 185.0 yards rushing, 175.5 yards passing, and 360.5 yards of total offense per game
  • They are converting at rates of 35.7% on third down and 60.0% on fourth down, while their opponents are converting 40.0% of the time on third down and 25.0% of the time on fourth down
  • WSC has scored seven of the eight times they entered the red zone this season and the defense has ten sacks, averaging 5.0 per contest
  • Carter Sitzman was named the NSIC South Division Preseason Defensive Player of the Year and landed on the D2Football.com Elite 100 watch list heading into 2025
  • Bennett Dannenbring paces the offense with 331 total yards and five touchdowns, while Dawson Forgy leads the team with 203 yards rushing and three touchdowns and Dane Petersen has 128 yards receiving and three touchdowns
  • The defense is led by Jes Krcil with 25.0 total tackles and Luke Lambert with 4.0 tackles for a loss, including 2.5 sacks
