Aberdeen, S.D. - Northern State's Brennan Phillips (baseball) and Dessa Bryant (softball) are this week's South Dakota Army National Guard Athletes of the Week following their performances last weekend.
Phillips hit .500 (9-for-18) over a five-game stretch in Arizona. He recorded three doubles, one run, eight RBIs, and seven runs during the week. The senior posted a slugging percentage of .883 and an on-base percentage of .583. The Illinois native registered 33 putouts and six assists in the field, maintaining a fielding percentage of .975. Phillips went 2-for-3 in the win against Wesleyan College, with one RBI and one double. He had three hits in five at-bats in the 13-3 victory over Hamline University, including two doubles and three RBIs.
Bryant led Northern State hitting .459 (17-of-37) in their 12-game week in Missouri and Kansas. She tallied 17 hits, seven runs scored, six doubles, and four RBIs. The freshman notched a .662 slugging percentage and .474 on base percentage. The South Dakota native recorded hits in 11 of the 12 games, including a perfect 4-for-4 with three doubles against Cottey College. Bryant boosted her season average by 112 points.
