Sioux Falls, S.D. – The Northern State University wrestling team finished eighth from the NCAA Super Region V Tournament on Saturday, earning 41.5 team points.
Sloan Johannsen,
Wyatt Turnquist, and
Damen Pape each advanced to the third place matches, however fell and took fourth.
Griffin Lundeen was the final Wolf in the placing matches, competing in the fifth place bout and taking sixth.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Johannsen went 3-2 on the day with wins over Jaxton Packer of Sioux Falls (TF 17-1), Mason Gutenberger of UMary (Dec 10-6), and Carlo Arreola of Southwest Minn. State (Fall 5:15); he fell in the semifinal round to region champion No. 3 Rohman of Augustana and No. 12 Knopick of St. Cloud State in the third place match
- Turnquist posted a 2-2 record taking fourth place with a quarterfinal win over Ethan Wonser of Minot State (TF 18-0) and consolation semifinal win over No. 11 Easton Worachek of Parkside (Dec 7-0)
- The graduate student recorded the 100th win of his career against Wonser and closes out his Northern State career with a record of 101-23; he also tallied his fourth straight 20-win season
- Lundeen went 2-3 on the day with a pair of wins over Jacob Thomas of MSU Moorhead (Dec 1-0) and Lincoln Fink of Sioux Falls (Dec 7-1)
- Pape was the final placing Wolf with a 3-2 record overall despite opening the day with a quarterfinal loss to No. 11 Fitzpatrick of St. Cloud State
- The 184-pounder notched wins over Wyatt Powell of MSU Moorhead (TF 17-2), Adam Sylvester of Southwest Minn. St. (TF 21-5), and Dante Roggio of UMary (Dec 7-3) before ultimately falling to Fitzpatrick a second time in a hard fought 9-8 decision
- Nathan Schauer went 1-2 with a win over Evan Thompson of Southwest Minn. St. in a 10-3 decision in the second consolation round
