Aberdeen, S.D. - Northern State's Brady Westall (wrestling) and Megan Counts (women's basketball) are this week's South Dakota Army National Guard Athletes of the Week following their performances last weekend.
Westall took fifth in the 184-pound bracket at the Midwest Classic. He posted a 6-2 record overall with one bonus point win. The sophomore defeated Durst of Fairmont State (TF 15-0), Spence of Lander (SV-1 12-9), and Richardson of Western Colorado (Dec 7-3). The Minnesota native recorded upset victories over No. 10 Rose of Ashland (Dec 3-0), No. 13 Ciampa of East Stroudsburg (Dec 8-6), and No. 7 Schuh of Parkside (Dec 6-4). Westall improved to 18-5 on the year.
Counts averaged 11.5 points and 5.0 rebounds per game against Minnesota Duluth and Bemidji State. She shot 42.9% from the floor and a league leading 91.7% from the foul line. The graduate student tallied ten total rebounds, as well as three steals, one assist, and one block. The Wyoming native recorded a weekend high and season second best 14 points against the Bulldogs, going a perfect 6-for-6 from the foul line.
