(RV) NORTHERN STATE TALLIES TWO WINS AND SEVEN TOP-3 FINISHES FROM DWU

Mitchell, S.D. – Twenty-two wrestlers took to the mat for the (RV) Northern State University Wolves from the DWU Open on Saturday with 11 top-5 finishes. Brady Westall and Krayle Stormer won their respective brackets at 184 and 141 pounds. In total, NSU scored 100 points on the day.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED FOR WESTALL
  • The 184-pounder opened his day with a 19-2 technical fall win over Jarred Goodman of Ridgewater College
  • He rattled off wins over Payton Waymon of Minot State (TF 17-2) and Keegan Gehlhausen (MF) to reach the championships round
  • Westall downed Brooks Loosvelt of Chadron State by technical fall, 18-2, capping off his bonus point win day
 
HOW IT HAPPENED FOR STORMER
  • Krayle Stormer won the 141-pound bracket with a 5-0 record and two bonus point wins
  • He opened his day with a 21-2 technical fall over Kameron Stiffler of Bismarck State and added wins over Christian Kirchner (Maj 22-12), Connor Ritonya of Nebraska Kearney (Dec 7-4), and Elijah Reece of Minnesota State (Dec 8-2)
  • The transfer capped off his day with a 2-0 decision win over Colton Hush of Minnesota State
 
WOLVES SECOND PLACE FINISHERS
  • Clay Gates posted a 3-1 record on the day, falling in the championship bout following wins over Elijah Nose of Jamestown (TF 19-4), Grant Wells of Concordia (Fall 2:58), and Ben DeForest of UMary (Dec 4-1)
  • Calder Sheehan went 4-0 on the day, taking second at 149-pounds in a championship match-up against No. 11 Rudy Lopez that wasn't wrestled
    • Sheehan tallied wins over Davin Wieland of Iowa Lakes (Fall 1:00), Dalton Hinebauch (TF 20-3), Caleb Nadig of Chadron State (Dec 7-2), and Aidan Callahan of Chadron State (5-3)
  • Lopez went undefeated at 149-pounds as well posting a 4-0 record in second
    • He recorded wins over Robert Salehi of Minot State (Maj 17-4), Jacob Messner of Southwest (Maj 22-8), Hudson Loges of Augustana (Dec 3-1), and Nolan Ambrose of Augustana (Dec 6-3)
  • Ryan Hirschkorn took second at 197-pounds with a 3-1 record, notching wins over Wyatt Powell of MSU Moorhead (Fall 1:34), Sam McNelly of Augustana (Dec 5-3), and Ryan Patterson of Fort Hays State (Dec 4-1)

  • Jacob Williams took third at 165-pounds with a 5-1 record on the day and wins over Chase Eggleston of Wayne (TF 17-2), Wyatt Pollard of Southwest (Maj 12-1), Robert Nelson of Nebraska Kearney (Fall 2:10), Tayten Gillette of Chadron State (Dec 4-1), and Cash Raymond of Augustana (Dec 7-2)
  • Karstyn Lhotak finished in fourth at 141-pounds with a 5-2 record and wins over Bentley Williams of Augustana (Maj 10-1), Andrew Honas of Fort Hays (Fall 3:46), Kaiden Dietzenbach of Minnesota State (Dec 13-6), Alex Mentzer of Augustana (Dec 10-6), and Elijah Reese of Minnesota State (Dec 4-1)
  • No. 13 Sloan Johannsen took fourth at 125-pounds with a 5-1 record on the day recording wins over Dominic Chimeno of Iowa Lakes (Fall 2:52), Landon Walker of MSU Moorhead (TF 17-2), Carson Nelson of Ridgewater (Fall 2:47), Carter Katherman of Augustana (Dec 10-8), and Cole Welte of Augustana (Maj 16-5)
  • Teagan Block notched the final fourth place finish at 133-pounds with a 5-1 record and wins over Will Farren (Fall 1:24), Jett Schwartz of Fort Hays (TF 19-1), John Kenney of Bismarck (Maj 15-1), Kipp Cordes of Dakota Wesleyan (Fall 2:03), and Hunter Jacobsen of Chadron State (TF 18-2)
  • Travis Smith rounded out the top-5 finishers at 184-pounds with a 4-2 record and wins over Mason Buss of Southwest Minnesota State (TF 19-4), Jaden Silha of Bismarck State (MF), Jaquan East of Minnesota State (Dec 6-4), and Keegan Gehlhausen of Chadron State (MF)
