Jamestown, N.D. – The Northern State University wrestling team opened their 2025-26 season today at the Jamestown Jimmie Open. The Wolves had 11 top-4 placings with three first place finishers. 24 Wolves took to action at the Jimmie Open with
Brady Westall (184),
Mason Schrempp (165), and No. 13
Sloan Johannsen (125) taking the titles in their respective weight class.
HOW IT HAPPENED FOR WESTALL
- Westall started his day with a victory by fall at 2:37 over Mishael Mauck of Sioux Falls
- The 184-pound redshirt freshman steamed through the second and third rounds with wins over Brogan Flannigan of Minnesota State (MD 11-1) and Tyson Lien of Northern State (Dec 6-3)
- He capped off the Jimmie Open with a decision win over teammate Travis Smith in an 8-3 decision, securing his title
HOW IT HAPPENED FOR SCHREMPP
- Schrempp went 4-0 on the day, scoring 12 team points in his first competition as a Wolf
- The 165-pounder made his Jimmie Open debut with a win over John Richter of UMary (TF 21-5), then topped Landon Day of Jamestown (TF 20-3) and Luke Swanson of USF (Dec 11-8) to make the finals
- He captured the Jimmie Open title, defeating Porter Craig of NDSU in a 7-5 decision
HOW IT HAPPENED FOR JOHANNSEN
- Johannsen went 5-0 on his way to claiming his Jimmie Open title
- The 125-pounder got his first win versus Gabino Vargas of USF (Dec 3-0) then rolled over his next three opponents; Mario Fernandez of JAM (TF 15-0), Nathan Provost of UM (TF 20-3), and Cole Faircloth of MSU (Dec 9-3)
- The ranked Wolf secured his Jimmie Open title with a win over Kody Tanimoto of NDSU (Dec 10-4)
WOLVES SECOND PLACE FINISHERS
- Travis Smith took second place at the 184-pound; after starting off hot with wins over Kenny Smith of BSC (TF 21-3), Hayden Ramaeker of Jamestown (Dec 3-0), and Sam Bruss of UMary (Dec 3-2), Smith fell to teammate Brady Westall in the championship bout (Dec 8-3)
WOLVES THIRD PLACE FINISHERS
- Clay Gates took third place competing at 133-pounds; he dropped his first contest however won his next five straight duals over Jacob Christianson of UM (Dec 12-5), Brandon Lee of NSU (MD 21-8), Brody Toledo of MSM (Dec 12-6), Andrew Worthington of MSU (Fall 2:16), and Cyler Ruhoff of USF (Dec SV 8-5)
- Krayle Stormer secured a top-3 finish at 141-pounds with a 5-1 record on the day; he opened the day with a loss, but rallied back with wins over Korbin Bateman of BSC (Dec 3-0), Braydnn Terry of BSC (TF 17-1), Jordon Oehme of USF (Dec 1-0), Koltyn Grebel of UMary (MD 11-2), and Aidan Wells of NDSU (Dec 6-0)
- Mason Fey notched a third place finish at 174-pounds with a 5-1 record; despite a loss in the opening round he rattled off five victories against Dylann Circiaglini of MSU (Fall 2:32), Colton Schaad of Jamestown (Fall 1:34), Jarrett Roos of USF (Fall 4:52), Luke Hoag NDSU (MD 15-6), and Charles Severance of UMary (M FOR)
- Nathan Schauer finished third at 285-pounds with a 5-1 record on the day; he won his first two duals by major decision against Isaiah Wright of MSMU (10-1) and Andreas Barnett of Sioux Falls (17-4); he fell in the semifinal round and fought back with a pair of wins over Jesse Garcia of USF (Fall 2:46) and Roy Rude (Dec 9-7)
- Ryan Hirschkorn tallied the final top-3 finish at 197-pounds with a 4-1 record; after starting off his Jimmie Open with a bye, Hirschkorn won four straight duals to secure his top-3 finish
WOLVES FOURTH PLACE FINISHERS
- Calder Sheehan went 4-2 on the day, placing fourth at 149-pounds with wins over Robert Salehi of MSU (MD 15-3), Cole Holien of NSU (Dec 6-3), Owen Lonski of NSU (TF 21-5), and Kaden DeCoteau of UMary (Dec 7-3)
- Tyson Lein moved down to 184-pounds from last season, finishing fourth with wins over Greg Fuher of BSC (TF 17-2) and Dane Hartmann of JAM (TF 17-2)
