Aberdeen, S.D. – The (RV) Northern State University wrestling team opened 2025 with a mountain slide victory over Sioux Falls. The Wolves defeated the Cougars by 37 points, winning nine of ten bouts with six extra point victories.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Sloan Johannsen kicked off the dual for the Wolves with a victory by fall over Daniel Parra at 2:23; he led 7-0 in the first at the time of the pin
• Sioux Falls tallied their lone points of the dual with a major decision win by No. 8 Klingensmith in the 133-pound bout
• No. 11 Braydon Mogle got the Wolves back on track, defeating Jordon Oehme in a 5-2 decision
• The first technical fall of the evening came via No. 6 Wyatt Turnquist for NSU, in a 20-3 defeat of Lane Fink at 3:42 in the match
• Griffin Lundeen followed with a 16-0 technical fall shutout of Lincoln Fink at 5:58 in the 157-pound bout and Northern led 19-4 at the break
• Izaak Hunsley and Mason Fey recorded back-to-back decision wins, extending the Wolves lead by six
• Hunsley defeated Cooper Sanders with a score of 8-3, while Fey downed Grant Moraski 11-5 at 174-pounds
• Back-to-back technical falls followed from Damen Pape and Tyson Lien
• Pape returned to the mat for the Wolves and defeated Timothy Lacina in a 20-4 technical fall, while Lien downed Stetson Davis by a score of 18-0
• Nathan Schauer closed out the dual in dramatic fashion, pinning Isaiah Laguna as the first period ticked down at 2:33; Schauer led 3-0 following a takedown just seconds before
