Wolves Come Up Short in Doubleheader with Bulldogs

Aberdeen, S.D. – The Northern State University softball team played 15 innings of solid softball on Sunday against Minnesota Duluth, however dropped the series to the Bulldogs. The Wolves dropped a1-run extra-inning affair in game one and fell by two in the night cap.

HOW IT HAPPENED | GAME 1
  • It was a pitchers game in the opener with Duluth grabbing the 1-0 victory in the top of the eighth
  • Northern tallied four hits, while Duluth recorded five
  • Despite striking out 11, Lexi Chase suffered the loss for the Wolves in eight innings of work
  • Ashley Fauske, Claire Zbylut, Alexandria Arndt, and Chase tallied the team's four hits in the game
 
NORTHERN STATE STATISTICAL STANDOUTS  
HOW IT HAPPENED | GAME 2
  • Northern scored first and grabbed the lead in the bottom of the third with two runs
  • Lexi Chase and Ashley Fauske scored on a single up the middle by Kyra Knudtson
  • The Bulldogs rallied back in the fifth with six runs on five hits
  • The Wolves added two in the sixth on a double by Chase to left field (scoring Emma Owens) and single to right center by Fauske (scoring Eden Ford)
  • Avarie Eagle led off the seventh for the Wolves with a single to right, however Northern was unable to keep the inning alive
  • NSU tallied their four runs on eight hits, leaving nine runners on base in the loss
  • Abby Rux started the game strong, however the fifth inning got away from her and the junior suffered the loss in the circle
  • Fauske led the team offensively, going 3-for-3 with a run scored and RBI

Northern State closes out the regular season next Saturday and Sunday at Bemidji State and Minnesota Crookston. Start times are set for 1 p.m. on Saturday against the Beavers and 12 p.m. on Sunday against the Golden Eagles.
