Northern Sun Releases 2024 Outdoor Track and Field Polls

The Northern State University track and field teams opened their outdoor slate today in Myrtle Beach, in addition to the release of the NSIC Preseason Poll. The Wolves were picked third (men) and seventh (women) heading into the 2024 outdoor season. For full information on the NSIC Preseason Releases CLICK HERE for the men and HERE for the women. 

 

Northern State placed eighth on both the men's and women's sides at the 2023 Outdoor Championships and are are coming off third (men) and sixth (women) place finishes at the NSIC Indoor Championships just a month ago.

“The men are coming off a tremendous indoor season where our team placed third overall at the NSIC Championships. This is the highest our team has placed since the NSIC expansion. We have veteran group along with some very talented freshmen. We will add lots of depth in the javelin throw. We are excited to see what our team can do for this outdoor season.”

“The women are coming off a 6th place finish this past indoor season. We have a solid veteran squad with some very talented freshmen athletes. We will add some more depth to our throws for the outdoor season with some very talented javelin and discus throwers. We are excited to see what our ladies can do this outdoor season.”

Josh Martin - Runner to Watch

Mid-Distance | So. | Aberdeen, S.D.

  • Broke the outdoor school record in the 1500m in 2024
  • Took 15th in the 1500m at the NSIC Outdoor Championships in 2023

 

"Josh is coming off a great indoor season where he was runner-up in both the mile, 1,000 and a member of the 3rd place DMR squad which hit a provo this indoor season. We expect him to continue that trend this outdoor season.

Sam Tremelling - Field Athlete to Watch

Pole Vault | Jr. | Chelmsford, Essex

  • 2024 NCAA Indoor National Championships appearance
  • NSIC Indoor Pole Vault Champion in 2024
  • 2023 NSIC Outdoor Pole Vault Runner-up

 

"Sam is coming off a great indoor season where he was Conference Champ in the Pole Vault. He also broke the NSU school record in the Pole Vault with a 5.06 mark and is currently ranked top 15 in the nation in the Pole Vault. We expect him to soar to new heights this outdoor season.

Megan Pickering - Runner to Watch

Distance | Sr. | Brandon, S.D.

  • Took sixth in the 10,000m at the NSIC Outdoor Championships in 2023

 

"Megan has had an amazing senior year so far. She was an All-Conference performer in cross country and she broke the indoor mile this past indoor season. We look forward to see how she finishes out her senior outdoor season.

Cassidy Gough - Field Athlete to Watch

Throws | Sr. | Aberdeen, S.D.

  • Placed fourth in the hammer and sixth in the javelin at the 2023 Outdoor Championships

 

"Cassidy is coming off a great indoor season where she hit a provisional mark in the weight throw at the NSIC meet. She is double threat this outdoor season with the Hammer throw and Javelin throw. She placed in both in the 2023 season. Cass works extremely hard and is also an amazing student as well.
