No. 17 Northern State Preps for Saturday at NCAA Super Region V Tournament

Aberdeen, S.D. – The No. 17 Northern State University wrestling team travels to the NCAA Super Region V Tournament this Saturday, March 2, hosted by Minot State University. Competition kicks off at 10 a.m. with the Wolves competing against wrestlers from No. 3 Augustana, No. 4 St. Cloud State, No. 5 Parkside, No. 12 UMary, No. 16 Upper Iowa, (RV) Southwest Minnesota State, (RV) Minot State, MSU Moorhead, Minnesota State, and Sioux Falls.

#17 NORTHERN STATE STORYLINES
  • The Wolves closed out the regular season with an 8-13 record overall and 3-6 mark in the Northern Sun
  • NSU is ranked 17th in the most recent NWCA Poll with four individually ranked wrestlers in No. 10 Jason Henschel Jr. (133), No. 8 Wyatt Turnquist (149), No. 9 Devin Bahr (157), and No. 3 Seth Brossard (174)
  • Landen Fischer will take on the 125 bracket for NSU, he holds a season record of 13-12
  • No. 10 Henschel Jr. will compete at 133 pounds with a season record of 14-5
  • Wrestling at 141 pounds is Braydon Mogle with a season record of 16-12
  • No. 8 Turnquist returns to the Super Region V Tournament following a third place finish in 2022-23; he is 24-4 at 149-pounds this season and is eighth nationally across all weights in technical falls
  • No. 9 Bahr returns to the mat at 157-pounds after qualifying for the NCAA Championships last season; the graduate student is 14-5 this season
  • Chase Bloomquist will represent the Wolves at 165-pounds with a 15-11 record in 2023-24
  • No. 3 Brossard broke on to the 174-pound season in January and holds a 9-0 record with multiple nationally ranked victories and eight extra point wins
  • Sam Kruger will wrestle the 184-pound bracket, entering the tournament with a season record of 11-10
  • Treyton Cacek made the jump to 197-pounds following the addition of Brossard in January and holds a season record of 7-9
  • Nathan Schauer will wrestle 285-pounds form the Wolves, he is 15-13 overall in 2023-24
