Wolves Wrestling Closes out Regular Season in Minnesota

Aberdeen, S.D. – The No. 18 Northern State University wrestling team hits the road this Friday and Saturday at No. 25 Southwest Minnesota State and Minnesota State. Dual start times are set for 7 p.m. each day.

#18 NORTHERN STATE STORYLINES
  • Northern enters the final weekend of the regular season with a 7-12 record overall and 2-5 mark in the Northern Sun
  • The Wolves are ranked 18th in the most recent NWCA Poll with Wyatt Turnquist ranked second at 149 pounds and Devin Bahr ranked fourth at 157 pounds
  • NSU is led by Turnquist and Bahr with records of 22-4 and 14-5 respectively
  • Seth Brossard has been a spark for the Wolves in the second half of the season, holding a 7-0 record with six of those being bonus point wins
  • Turnquist sits in the top-10 this season in technical fall wins, tied at seventh with eight total; he is also second on that list in quickest per match time
 
#25 SOUTHWEST MINNESOTA STATE STORYLINES
  • Southwest enters the weekend with a 3-6 record overall and 1-6 mark in the NSIC
  • The Mustangs are ranked 25th in the current NWCA Poll with No. 3 Caden Steffen at 197 pounds and No. 10 Jacob Dykes at 285 pounds
  • Steffen holds a 15-1 record on the season, while Dykes is 10-6
  • The Mustangs are led by head coach Chayse Jackson in his third season at the helm
 
A SEASON AGO
  • The Wolves defeated the Mustangs 25-10 (22-23), 24-19 (21-22), and 18-16 (20-21) in their last three meetings
  • Northern is 13-16-1 all-time against Southwest Minnesota State
 
MINNESOTA STATE STORYLINES
  • The Mavericks head into the weekend with a 5-5 record overall and 2-4 mark in the Northern Sun; the will face Sioux Falls prior to their dual with the Wolves
  • MSU is led by head coach Jim Makovsky in his 31st season at the helm
