Wolves Split the Day against Valley City and Jamestown

Jamestown, N.D. – The Northern State softball team takes down Valley City State, 9-1 but fell short against Jamestown, 6-3. NSU finished the weekend with a 3-1 record. Six Wolves had multi-hit games against the Vikings and Jimmies.

HOW IT HAPPENED vs VALLEY CITY STATE
  • The Vikings were the first to score in the second inning after a single to center field
  • Northern State responded in the second inning as Elly Smith scoring Taylor Coleman, a player choice scored Kamdyn Barrientos to put the Wolves ahead, 2-1
  • They added to their lead in the third inning with Coleman with a single scoring Lexi Chase and  Ashley Fauske, after an error by the right fielder Coleman scored
  • In the third inning, Smith drove on to right center for a double scoring Barriento to put the Northern up 6-1
  • Barrientos reached on a fielder choice in the fifth inning bringing in Coleman after an error, Jone grounded out to short stop scoring Barriento, and Fauske knocked her second triple of the season scoring pinch runner, Brooke Wolf
  • The Wolves recorded nine runs off of 12 hits
  • Taylor Coleman pitched a complete game of 5.0 inning with six strikeouts and four hits for her second win of the season

HOW IT HAPPENED vs JAMESTOWN
  • The Wolves tallied three runs off eight hits in the second game of the day against Jamestown
  • Northern State was the first to score after a single from Avarie Eagle to score Ashley Fauske
  • Jamestown responded in the third and fourth innings, notching four runs
  • In the fifth inning, Eagle flied out to score Fauske and Lexi Chase popped one up to score Claire Zbylut to put the wolves behind by one
  • The Jimmies added to their lead in the fifth and sixth inning with two runs to seal the win
  • Mckenzie Wanner pitched 3.1 innings with one strike out while Abby Rux finished the game out with 2.2 innings pitched and three strikeouts
