Wolves Offense Ignites in Tuesday NSIC Split

Minot, N.D. – The Northern State University softball team added to the win column on Tuesday, recording a Northern Sun split at Minot State. The Wolves fell in game one and bounced back with an offensive explosion in game two, tallying 13 hits and ten runs in the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 1
  • Minot State jumped out to an early lead in the opener, scoring three runs in their first plate appearances of the afternoon
  • The Beavers added another run in both the third and fifth innings, holding a 5-0 lead through 6-complete
  • Northern's lone run of the contest came in the top of the seventh on a sacrifice fly by Emma Owens, plating Kyra Knudtson
  • The Wolves tallied one run on four hits with one error in the game, while the Beavers scored five runs on nine hits
  • Lexi Chase started for NSU and suffered the loss, giving up five earned runs with three strikeouts
  • Elly Smith led the Wolves offense with two hits in the game

HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 2
  • The Wolves struck early and often in game two notching one run in the first, four in the second, two in the fourth, and three in the seventh
  • Northern led 7-0 through 4-complete, however Minot State cut into the lead scoring two runs in the fifth and three in the sixth
  • Liv Richardson scored the first run of the game for the Wolves in the first on a bases loaded walk to Elly Smith
  • Scoring for NSU in the second was Lexi Chase on a single by Claire Zyblut, Zyblut and Ashley Fauske on a double by Richardson, and Richardson on a double by Kyra Knudtson
  • Smith added a run in the fourth, scoring on Emma Owens' double to left, and Owens touched home on a bases loaded catcher interference call
  • With just a 2-run lead heading into the final frame, Northern added some insurance on a double to left by Avarie Eagle, scoring Zyblut and Fauske, and double to center by Knudtson, scoring Eagle
  • Northern put together a ten run, 13 hit game against the Beavers, while Minot State scored their five runs on six hits
  • Neither team played perfect defense as the Wolves notched four errors and the Beavers tallied one
  • Abby Rux threw her second win of the season, while Lexi Chase grabbed her first save
