Aberdeen, S.D. – Northern State's Wyatt Turnquist (wrestling) and Renea Taylor (women's track & field) have been named as the South Dakota Army National Guard Athletes of the Week for their athletic efforts last week.

Turnquist entered the 2023 NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships as the seventh seed at 149 pounds, where he earned All-American honors for the first time in his career with a third place finish and 5-1 record. He opened the championship with a 21-2 technical fall over Dallas Wilson of Mount Olive. His lone loss of the tournament came in the quarterfinals to eventual national champion Josiah Rider of Adams State before he won his blood round bout 9-0 against Jacob Simpson of West Liberty. On the second day of competition Turnquist tallied three wins over wrestlers seeded sixth or higher, defeating No. 3 Nick Young of Gannon 8-6, No. 1 Jacob Ealy of Pitt-Johnstown 8-4, and No. 6 Jalen Spuhler of Wisconsin-Parkside 10-5.

Taylor made her debut appearance at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships, competing in the 60m dash. She took third place in the first heat of the event with a time of 7.50, just 0.04 seconds off her own school record time. Overall, Taylor placed 11^th in the 60m dash to earn Second Team All-American honors.
