Podium Finishes Lead Wolves to Strong Day Two at NSIC Championships

West Fargo, N.D. – The Northern State swim team was led by a trio of individual swimmers who finished the night on the podium after competing in A-Final events, helping the Wolves maintain fifth place with a total of 154 team points. Northern's day two at the NSIC Championships was highlighted by Lilly Grebner's second conference title of the meet with a personal best time in the 400-yard IM.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • In the morning session Maddie Gonzales (4:46.94) and Hannah Kiernan (4:51.98) each set season-best times to advance to the C Final of the 400-yard IM during the evening session, another swimmer of note in the 400-yard IM preliminaries was Brianna Back who set a new personal-best time of 4:53.72
  • During the 200-yard freestyle preliminaries Haley Osborne (1:54.89) recorded a season-best time to advance to the evening's A Final in the event; also swimming in the 200-yard freestyle preliminaries was Ali Jones who set a season-best time of 2:07.19, and Mia Fursedonne who recorded a personal-best time of 2:01.87 while swimming an exhibition in the event
  • Lauren Forsyth kicked off the evening session of the 2023 NSIC Swimming & Diving Championships with a podium finish in the 100-yard butterfly, hitting the wall in sixth place and a time of 57.71
  • Just like in the 200-yard IM last night, Lilly Grebner entered the meet with the NSIC's top time in the 400-yard IM and she ended the night with her second NSIC Conference title with a winning time of 4:27.90 (a new personal-best)
  • After recording season-best times to reach the C-Final of the 400-yard IM, Gonzales set a new personal-best time of 4:43.02 to finish 19th overall and Kiernan improved her season-best time to 4:51.61 to finish 24th overall
  • Osborne also improved on her season-best time set in the morning session to become the third Northern swimmer to reach the podium on the night, finishing seventh place in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:54.07 in the A-Final
  • Day two of the NSIC Championships ended with a top-10 performance in the 400-yard medley relay for the Wolves, as the team of Gonzales, Grebner, Forsyth, and Osborne recorded a season-best time of 3:57.25 in the event

UP NEXT
Action from the 2023 NSIC Swimming & Diving Championships will begin at 10 a.m. again tomorrow morning with the preliminaries of the 500-yard freestyle, 100-yard backstroke, 100-yard breaststroke, and 200-yard butterfly. The finals of those four events plus the 800-yard freestyle relay will be held in tomorrow night's evening session starting at 5:30 p.m. at the Hurlbert Aquatic Center.
