Wolves Volleyball Travels to St. Cloud State for NSIC Opening Round

Aberdeen, S.D. – The Northern State University volleyball team opens the postseason tomorrow at No. 9 St. Cloud State. Match start time is set for 6 p.m. in the opening round of the NSIC Tournament.

NORTHERN STATE STORYLINES
  • Northern State earned the fifth seed in the NSIC Tournament following an 11-7 season in league play
  • The Wolves hold a 19-8 record overall and sat tenth in last week's NCAA Central Region Rankings
  • NSU is hitting .212, averaging 12.7 kills, 11.9 assists, 17.7 digs, 2.3 blocks, and 1.7 aces per set
  • Defensively, Northern is holding their opponents to a .155 attack percentage, as well as 11.7 kills and 10.8 assists per set
  • Natalia Szybinska leads the Northern offense with 288 total kills, averaging 3.06 kills per set, followed by Hanna Thompson and Morissen Samuels with 265 and 242 kills respectively
  • Abby Brooks is hitting a team best .343 this season and is the final Wolf with over 200 kills, coming in at 228
  • In addition, Brooks leads the team at the net with 96.0 total blocks, averaging 0.98 per set
  • Keri Walker surpassed the 1000 assist mark to close out the regular season and is averaging 10.60 assists per set, in addition to a team leading 45 aces
  • The floor defense is led by Abby Meister with 579 digs, averaging 5.97 per set this season
  • Walker and Reese Johnson follow with 278 and 246 digs respectively, while Sara Moberg adds 224 and leads the defensive specialists with a .950 serve receive percentage
 
ST. CLOUD STATE STORYLINES
  • St. Cloud State earned the fourth seed in the NSIC Tournament and hosting rights in 2023
  • The Huskies enter the postseason with a 20-7 record overall and 13-5 mark in the Northern Sun
  • SCSU is hitting .246 this season, averaging 14.3 kills, 13.3 assists, 14.9 digs, 1.7 blocks, and 1.9 aces per set
  • Defensively they are holding their opponents to a .171 hitting percentage and just 10.6 kills and 9.9 assists per set
  • Kenzie Foley, the NSIC Offensive Player of the Year, leads St. Cloud with 473 kills, averaging 4.98 per set with a .291 attack percentage
  • Sam Zimmerman and Hannah Bruskiewicz follow with 250 and 231 kills respectively this season, with Zimmerman hitting a team leading .305
  • Emma Berran paces the offense with 1074 total assists in 2023, averaging 11.31 assists per set, and leads the team with 43 aces
  • Keely Kurschner and Foley lead the defensive effort with 397 and 308 digs apiece this season; Kurschner is averaging 4.22 digs per set
  • Zimmerman and Bruskiewicz lead the team at the net with 76 and 61 blocks respectively
  • The Huskies are led by head coach Chad Braegelmann in his ninth season at the helm
