Football Faces off in Marshall for SMSU Homecoming this Week

Aberdeen, S.D. – The Northern State University football team travels to Southwest Minnesota State this Saturday in week 7 NSIC action. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. versus the Mustangs.

NORTHERN STATE STORYLINES
  • The Wolves hit the road with a 2-4 record overall and in the NSIC
  • Northern is averaging 27.2 points, 147.0 yards rushing, 249.0 yards passing, and 396.0 yards of total offense this season
  • They improved their conversion rates a weekend ago with both third and fourth down sitting at 40.0% or better in 2023
  • The NSU defense has 12 sacks on the year, as well as three interceptions
  • Jacob Van Landingham made the first collegiate start of his career at quarterback last weekend, completing 11-of-12 attempts for 145 total yards and two touchdowns
  • The Wolves will look for Colton Hackel to return under center this weekend; he leads the team with 697 yards passing and four touchdowns
  • Dewaylon Ingram and Dakota Larson are the main targets in the air for NSU with 605 and 511 yards receiving respectively, combining for ten touchdowns this season
  • Brett Brenton leads the rushing attack after an 84-yard, three touchdown game against Minot State; he has 280 yards rushing and five touchdowns this season
  • Trey King jumped into the defensive lead last weekend and has 39.0 total tackles and 8.0 tackles for a loss this season

  • The Southwest defense has nine sacks and two interceptions this season
  • Marcus Martin paces the offense with 1097 total passing yards and six touchdowns this season, completing 55.4% of his passes
  • Peter Osman and Rashaan Palmer are the leading receivers for the Mustangs with 285 and 226 yards respectively, combing for four touchdowns
  • Donald Austin leads the rushing attack with 479 total yards and two touchdowns, averaging 4.2 yards per carry and 79.8 yards per game
  • Josiah Hedensten leads the defense with 40 total tackles including 3.0 sacks for a loss of 25 yards
  • Gideon Ervasti and Jalani Jefferson follow with 31 tackles apiece, while Ervasti leads the team with 5.5 tackles for a loss
