Fan Primer: No. 20 Wolves Return for Military Appreciation and White-Out Duals

Aberdeen, S.D. – The No. 20 Northern State University Wolves welcome (RV) Minnesota State and No. 5 St. Cloud State to Aberdeen this Friday and Saturday. The Wolves face the Mavericks at 7 p.m. on Friday and the Huskies at 2 p.m. on Saturday. Full promotional details for both matches are below.

Game Specific Promotions

  • All weekend long, Northern State wrestling welcomes back their alumni for a variety of events
  • Friday's contest against the Mavericks is Youth Night and the team's Military Appreciation Dual
    • Kids will receive FREE admission to the contest
    • The Wolves will wear camo singlets against MSU which will be auction off HERE
      • Bidding opens at 12 p.m. on January 26th and closes at 9 p.m. on January 27th
      • All proceeds will go to the DTOM Veterans Ranch to honor Tom Perrizo
  • Saturday's dual versus the Huskies is a White-Out sponsored by AutoMaxx of Aberdeen
    • Free white-out t-shirts will be handed out to the first 200 fans
    • Northern State students in attendance have the opportunity to win a MacBook Air

 

Entrances to the Facility & Gate Opening Times

Fans will be able to enter the Barnett Center through the north doors. The ticket gate located at the north doors of the Barnett Center, and will open one hour prior to face-off for all general admission and same day ticket sales. 

 

Online Ticketing

Wolves Club season tickets and general admission passes can be purchased online at nsuwolves.universitytickets.com or at the gate on game day. The fully automated system allows fans to select their seat for game day with tickets sent directly to your email or mobile device. Pricing for season and single game tickets is available at nsuwolves.com/tickets. Senior and youth tickets are only available for purchase at the gate on game days. All game day ticket sales  and the passbook (individuals must sign in via the far right line at the ticket gate) will be available at the north entrance of the Barnett Center. There is no re-entry into the facility.

Current Northern State University students will receive one free ticket to all home sporting events throughout the 2022-23 academic. Information on how to claim student tickets will be distributed via email. 

 

Concessions and Team Store

The Northern State concession stands are operated by Sodexo and offer a wide range of options for fans of all ages. Enjoy an ice-cold Coca-Cola product, bite into a soft pretzel with cheese, a world famous Wolf dog, or walking taco. Don’t forget to grab a freshly made popcorn or batch of Wisconsin cheese curds from one of the concession stands near you at all home Wolves athletic events. The NSU Nike Team Store will be open in its main Barnett Center location on game day, opening one hour prior to face-off.

#20 NORTHERN STATE STORYLINES

  • Northern returns to Wachs Arena with a 7-3 record overall and 2-2 mark in the NSIC
  • NSU is led by Wyatt Turnquist and Landen Fischer with 13 and 12 wins respectively this season, while Turnquist and Cole Huss both hold a perfect 4-0 record in NSIC competition
  • The Wolves are currently ranked No. 20 in the NWCA Poll with two individually ranked student-athletes in No. 3 Cole Huss (197), and No. 7 Turnquist (149)

 

(RV) MINNESOTA STATE STORYLINES

  • Minnesota State enters the week with a 4-2 record overall and 1-2 mark in the NSIC after falling 40-0 to St. Cloud State last Saturday
  • The Mavericks are receiving votes in the most recent NWCA Poll with two wrestling ranked in No. 12 Brock Luthens (141) and No. 7 Darrell Mason (285)
  • Luthens holds a 17-3 record this season while Mason is 5-2 overall
  • MSU is led by head coach Jim Makovsky in his 30th season at the helm
     

LAST MATCH-UP

  • The Wolves defeated the Mavericks 30-13 on the road a season ago, snapping an 8-match loss streak
  • Northern is 2-19 all-time against Minnesota State

 

#5 ST. CLOUD STATE STORYLINES

  • The Huskies hold a 9-1 record on the year and 2-1 mark in the NSIC with their loss coming against Wisconsin Parkside (20-19)
  • St. Cloud State is ranked fifth in the most recent NWCA poll with seven ranked in their respective weights including No. 7 Paxton Creese (125), No. 11 Sam Spencer (133), No. 11 Alyeus Craig (141), No. 8 Joey Bianchini (149), No. 2 Nick Novak (157), No. 1 Abner Romero (174), and No. 10 Dominic Murphy (197)
  • SCSU is led by head coach Steve Costanzo in his 17th season at the helm
