Wolves Return to Dual Meet Action at SMSU Tri-Dual

Aberdeen, S.D. – The Northern State swim team will travel to Marshall, Minnesota, this weekend to take part in a tri-dual where the Wolves will face Southwest Minnesota State and Minnesota Morris. Start time for Saturday's meet against the Mustangs and Cougars is scheduled for 2 p.m. at the Don Palm Natatorium.

NORTHERN STATE STORYLINES
  • Northern State enters Saturday's tri-dual with a 7-6 dual record on the season, and are 6-5 in duals against NSIC competition
  • The Wolves won their second consecutive Dragon Invite team title last weekend, totaling 1,065.5 team points; the Wolves notched seven individual wins, one relay win, 26 individual top-5 finishes, and nine top-5 relay finishes
  • Lilly Grebner tallied five event wins at the Dragon Invite, winning the 50-yard butterfly (27.11), 100-yard butterfly (59.02), 50-yard breaststroke (32.00), 100-yard breaststroke (1:09.13), and the 200-yard IM (2:12.66); Maddie Gonzales added a pair of event wins in the 100-yard backstroke (1:01.47) and 200-yard backstroke (2:11.79)
  • Grebner's performance at the Dragon Invite earned NSIC Swimmer of the Week honors on Tuesday morning, her third time this season earning the award
  • Grebner holds the fastest times in the NSIC in the 200-yard butterfly (2:04.65), 100-yard IM (57.43), 200-yard IM (2:03.84), and 400-yard IM (4:29.70); Grebner also ranks 11th in the NSIC in the 100-yard butterfly (58.15), and 13th in the 50-yard butterfly (27.11)
  • Grebner holds the fastest time in NCAA Division II in the 100-yard IM (57.43), while also ranking 12th nationally in the 200-yard IM (2:03.84) and 13th in the 200-yard butterfly (2:04.65)
  • Lauren Forsyth ranks second in the NSIC in the 200-yard butterfly (2:07.70), sixth in the 100-yard butterfly (57.38), and seventh in the 50-yard butterfly (26.67)
  • Delaney Ryken ranks 13th in the NSIC in the 50-yard freestyle (24.04), while Gonzales ranks 14th in the 200-yard backstroke (2:11.79) and Mayson Sheldon ranks 15th in the 50-yard breaststroke (31.64)
  • Through nine meets this season Northern has claimed 37 individual wins, 91 individual top-3 finishes, and eight relay wins
  • Grebner has a team-best 21 individual wins and 23 top-3 finishes this season; other NSU swimmers to win individual events this season include Maddie Gonzales (5), Haley Osborne (4), Mayson Sheldon (2), Lauren Forsyth (2), Delaney Ryken (1), Hannah Rodts (1), and Brianna Back (1)
SOUTHWEST MINNESOTA STATE STORYLINES
  • Southwest Minnesota State enters Saturday's tri-dual with a 7-5 dual record on the season, and are 4-4 in duals against NSIC competition
  • The Mustangs dropped a pair of duals to Sioux Falls last weekend, falling 178-93 in a sprint-dual on Friday and 191-74 on Saturday to the Cougars
  • In Friday's competition against the Cougars the Mustangs earned four event wins, Maija Geier in the 125-yard freestyle (1:10.85), Sarah McDonald in the 1-meter diving (215.55), Livy Sholl in the 75-yard breaststroke (51.24), and Natalie Bohnert in the 275-yard freestyle (2:49.75); SMSU then followed up Friday's performance with two more event wins on Saturday with Geier in the 100-yard backstroke (1:02.05) and McDonald in the 3-meter diving (211.42)
  • Natalie Bohnert ranks ninth in the NSIC in the 200-yard butterfly (2:13.34), 13th in the 100-yard backstroke (58.46), and 14th in the 50-yard backstroke (27.54)
  • Livy Sholl ranks 11th in the NSIC in the 50-yard breaststroke (31.21) and 13th in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:07.48)
  • Sarah McDonald ranks 11th in the 3-meter diving (6 dives) with a season-best score of 211.65 against MSU Moorhead back in November and ranks 14th in 1-meter diving (6 dives) with a season-best score of 215.55 last weekend against Sioux Falls
  • Marty Wahle is in his fourth season as the head women's swimming and diving coach at Southwest Minnesota State
LAST MATCH-UP
  • Northern State and Southwest Minnesota State last competed against each other on September 23, 2022, in a relay meet in Aberdeen where the Mustangs scored a 178-124 dual win
  • In the season opening meet the Wolves earned victories in the 3x100-yard butterfly relay (3:04.10), the 400-yard medley relay (4:08.32), and the 400-yard IM relay (4:17.09)

MINNESOTA MORRIS STORYLINES
  • Minnesota Morris enters Saturday's tri-dual with a 2-0 dual record on the season, and have not faced any conference opponents who compete in the Liberal Arts Championship (LAC) at the NCAA Division III and NAIA levels
  • The Cougars also competed at last weekend's Dragon Invite, finishing in sixth place with a total of 178 team points
  • At the Dragon Invite UMM tallied eighth individual top-10 finishes, led by Lexi Gerdes, Madi Gerdes, and Lilly Radintz each with two during the meet; Natalie West scored the only top-5 finish of the meet for Minnesota Morris with a fourth place finish in the 1,650-yard freestyle (21:18.79
  • Jenna Gutterman ranks fifth among LAC competitors in the 1,650-yard freestyle (19:47.33), seventh in the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:54.29), eighth in the 400-yard IM (5:18.59), and ninth in the 500-yard freestyle (5:46.51)
  • Lexi Gerdes ranks sixth among LAC competitors in the 200-yard butterfly (2:28.79), eighth in the 100-yard IM (1:08.41), ninth in the 400-yard IM (5:23.93), and tenth in the 1,650-yard freestyle (21:08.03)
  • Radintz ranks sixth among LAC competitors in the 50-yard freestyle (25.68), eighth in the 50-yard butterfly (29.68), and tenth in the 200-yard freestyle (2:07.30)

LAST MATCH-UP
  • Northern State and Minnesota Morris last competed against each other on November 8, 2019, in Morris where the Wolves scored a 166-64 dual win
