Fan Primer: No. 21 Wolves Set to Host Beavers and No. 9 Peacocks

Aberdeen, S.D. – The No. 21 Northern State University wrestling team is set for their 2022-23 home opener this weekend versus (RV) Minot State and No. 9 Upper Iowa. The Wolves will face the Beavers at 7 p.m. on Friday and the Peacocks at 2 p.m. on Sunday from Wachs Arena.

Game Specific Promotions

  • The dual against the Peacocks is Sundaes on Sunday where all fans will receive a free ice cream sundae while supplies last

 

Entrances to the Facility & Gate Opening Times

Fans will be able to enter the Barnett Center through the north doors. The ticket gate located at the north doors of the Barnett Center, and will open one hour prior to face-off for all general admission and same day ticket sales. 

 

Online Ticketing

Wolves Club season tickets and general admission passes can be purchased online at nsuwolves.universitytickets.com or at the gate on game day. The fully automated system allows fans to select their seat for game day with tickets sent directly to your email or mobile device. Pricing for season and single game tickets is available at nsuwolves.com/tickets. Senior and youth tickets are only available for purchase at the gate on game days. All game day ticket sales  and the passbook (individuals must sign in via the far right line at the ticket gate) will be available at the north entrance of the Barnett Center. There is no re-entry into the facility.

Current Northern State University students will receive one free ticket to all home sporting events throughout the 2022-23 academic. Information on how to claim student tickets will be distributed via email. 

 

Concessions and Team Store

The Northern State concession stands are operated by Sodexo and offer a wide range of options for fans of all ages. Enjoy an ice-cold Coca-Cola product, bite into a soft pretzel with cheese, a world famous Wolf dog, or walking taco. Don’t forget to grab a freshly made popcorn or batch of Wisconsin cheese curds from one of the concession stands near you at all home Wolves athletic events. The NSU Nike Team Store will be open in its main Barnett Center location on game day, opening one hour prior to face-off.

#21 NORTHERN STATE STORYLINES

  • Northern State continues NSIC action with a 3-2 record overall and 1-1 mark in the league
  • Kelby Hawkins, Cole Huss, and Wyatt Turnquist are all 2-0 in league action this season with match victories over competitors from Wisconsin Parkside and Southwest Minnesota State
  • Turnquist leads the weekend’s probable line-up with eight wins on the year, followed by Teagan Block and Tyson Lien with six and five wins respectively
  • The Wolves are currently ranked No. 21 in the NWCA Poll with two individually ranked student-athletes in No. 2 Cole Huss (197), and No. 11 Turnquist (149)

 

(RV) MINOT STATE STORYLINES

  • The Beavers enter the weekend with a 5-3 record overall and will face the Wolves in their second NSIC dual of the season after a bout with Augustana this evening
  • Minot State is receiving votes in the most recent NWCA Poll, with Jake Swirple ranked at No. 8 in the 285 pound weight class
  • Swirple is 8-1 this season, while Cayden White and Dustin Swisher each hold a team best 11 wins
  • Minot is led by head coach Evan Forde in his eighth season at the helm
     

LAST MATCH-UP

  • The Wolves defeated the Beavers 19-13 a season ago
  • Returners for NSU that tallied wins in the dual include Wyatt Turnquist (dec 10-3), Chase Bloomquist (dec 7-6), Kelby Hawkins (maj 14-5), and Cole Huss (dec 5-3)
  • Northern is 9-4 all-time against Minot State and on a 3-match win streak

  • Upper Iowa hits the road for weekend duals at NSU and MSUM with a 4-2 record overall

  • UIU is coming off a sixth place finish at the NWCA Duals and upset victory over No. 2 Nebraska Kearney (21-14)
  • The Peacocks are led by head coach Heath Grimm in his 23rd season at the helm
