Wolves Suffer First Loss of 2022 at Southwest Baptist

Bolivar, MO – After winning a pair of games by way of shutout a week ago, Northern State came up short in their non-conference finale at Southwest Baptist by a score of 1-0. While the Wolves controlled the offensive attack throughout the second half, they were unable to take advantage of several scoring opportunities on nine second half shots.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Northern State put pressure on the Southwest Baptist defense early on with a free kick deep in the offensive zone, followed by a corner kick and shot-on-goal by DeAnna LeMire
  • The Bearcats' Allyson Lieber scored the lone goal of the game in the 27th minute with a long shot after Northern attempted to clear the ball following a deflection
  • Northern's best look to tie the game in the second half came in the 68th minute when LeMire fielded a cross pass in front of the box with no defenders nearby, but her shot was deflected back by Ashlynn Edison; Isabela Polanco Garcia's shot off the deflection missed high over the net
  • Trying to even the match late, the Wolves attempted five shots in the final 20 minutes of playing time, with only two shots-on-goal
  • Northern State held the advantage in shots (14-3), shots-on-goal (6-1), and corner kicks (2-1)
