Wolves Travel to Southwest Baptist for Final Non-Conference Match-Up

Aberdeen, S.D. – The Northern State women's soccer team will close out their non-conference schedule on Sunday afternoon as they will travel to Bolivar, Missouri to face Southwest Baptist. The Wolves and Bearcats are scheduled for a 4 p.m. kick-off at the SBU Soccer Field.

Northern State Storylines
  • Northern State enters their final non-conference contest on Sunday afternoon with a record of 2-0 following a pair of 1-0 victories over Montana State Billings and Black Hills State last weekend
  • On Monday afternoon Alexus Townsend was named the NSIC Goalkeeper of the Week after shutouts against MSUB and BHSU; she totaled 12 saves on the weekend, including nine against MSUB
  • After two this last weekend, Townsend has now recorded nine career shutouts
  • Mia Zagorski scored her second career goal (first career game-winner) in the Wolves opening season win over the Yellowjackets of MSUB
  • Megan Fastenau netted her first goal of the season against BHSU, she led the team with four shots and two shots-on-goal at the Rimrock Classic
  • Summer Carlson and Zoe Boughton each recorded their first career assists against MSU Billings and Black Hills State respectively
  • Northern State is looking to improve on it's best start to a season since 2016 when they finished with an undefeated non-conference record of 2-0 and won their first four games of the season
Southwest Baptist Storylines
  • Following a 2-13-1 (2-12 GLVC) record a season ago, Southwest Baptist was picked 12th out of 13 teams in the GLVC Women's Soccer Preseason Poll
  • SBU opened their season with a 1-1 tie against Harding and followed that match with losses against Ouachita Baptist (2-1) and Northeastern State (1-0)
  • In the Bearcats first two games of the season, sophomore Isabel Schelhammer and freshman Sam Short scored their first career goals
  • Freshmen Tamerra Gantt and Abbey Klund, and sophomore Ashlynn Robinson all recorded their first assists of their careers in the opening two games of the season
  • Ashlynn Edison has started three games in goal for the Bearcats, making 15 saves for a save percentage of 0.789
  • In the early portion of the non-conference schedule, nine underclassmen have made starts this season, including three freshmen
  • SBU has been out-shot by their opponents 52-24 and 20-14 in shots-on-goal this season
  • Stefan Skillman is in his fourth season as the head coach at Southwest Baptist, holding a record of 5-41-4 (4-38-1 GLVC) during his time in Bolivar
Looking Back to 2015
  • Northern State and Southwest Baptist last met on the pitch on September 6, 2015, in a neutral site match-up in Sioux Falls; Allie Macdonald netted the game-winner for the Wolves in the 79th minute of action for the 2-1 victory
  • The Wolves lead the all-time series 2-0 over the Bearcats
