Fan Primer: Wolves Soccer Returns to Aberdeen for Home Opener

Aberdeen, S.D. â€“ Following five consecutive road games to start the 2022 season, the Northern State Wolves are finally playing a home soccer match. The Wolves will host Wayne State on Friday evening at 6 p.m. to open the home slate and will conclude the weekend on Sunday with a home game at 1 p.m. against Augustana.

Game Specific Promotions

  • Friday's contest is a Back to School Supply Drive
    • Fans can donate a school supply item (valued at $5 or more) and be admitted free to the contest - all donations will be given to area schools
  • Sunday's contest is Sundaes on Sunday with free ice cream sundaes while supplies last

 

Online Ticketing

Wolves Club season tickets and general admission passes can be purchased online at nsuwolves.universitytickets.com or at the gate on game day. The fully automated system allows fans to select their seat for game day with tickets sent directly to your email or mobile device. Pricing for season and single game tickets is available at nsuwolves.com/tickets. Senior and youth tickets are only available for purchase at the gate on game days. All game day ticket sales will be available at the main entrance to the Athletic & Recreation Fields for soccer.

Current Northern State University students will receive one free ticket to all home sporting events throughout the 2022-23 academic. Information on how to claim student tickets will be distributed via email. 

 

Entrances to the Facility & Gate Opening Times

Fans should enter through the main gates of 14th Ave SW on game day. The ticket tent, located just inside the fence, will open one hour prior to kick-off for all general admission and same day ticket sales. Individuals included in the Northern State passbook must sign in with the ticket personnel.  There is no re-entry into the facility.

 

Parking

Parking for all home Northern State soccer contests is free for all fans. Fans are encouraged to park on the North end of the Barnett Center lot and walk to the main gate of the Athletics & Recreation Fields. Limited parking is available outside of the facility on 14th Ave SW. 

 

Concessions

The Northern State concession stands are operated by Sodexo and offer a wide range of options for fans of all ages. Enjoy an ice-cold Coca-Cola product, bite into a soft pretzel with cheese, a world famous Wolf dog, or walking taco. Don’t forget to grab a freshly made popcorn or batch of Wisconsin cheese curds from one of the concession stands near you at all home Wolves athletic events. NORTHERN STATE STORYLINES

  • Northern State enters the weekend with a record of 3-2 (1-1 NSIC) on the season, the Wolves are tied for seventh in the NSIC standings
  • The Wolves split a pair of games during the opening weekend of NSIC play, falling at Bemidji State (1-0) before earning a road victory at Minnesota Crookston (4-0)
  • Megan Fastenau and Hannah Smith are tied for the team lead with four points and two goals
  • Northern has had five different players record an assist this season, Mia Zagorski, Zoe Boughton, Summer Carlson, Calista Kocmick, and DeAnna LeMIre
  • Alexus Townsend has started all five games this season for NSU, grabbing 18 saves for a 0.900 save percentage and has recorded two shutouts and one combined shutout with Elinor Sayers
  • Northern State has out-shot their opponents this season by a margin of 68-38 an average of 13.6-7.6 per game
  • The Wolves are tied for 18th nationally in save percentage (0.900) and tied for 19th nationally in goals-against average (0.400)
  • As an individual goalkeeper, Townsend is tied for 27th nationally in save percentage (0.900) and tied for 37th nationally in goals-against average (0.500)

 

WAYNE STATE STORYLINES

  • Wayne State enters this weekend searching for their first win of the season with a record of 0-4-1 (0-2 NSIC), the Wildcats are currently tied for 14th in the NSIC standings
  • The Wildcats dropped a pair of road games at Minnesota State (6-0) and Concordia-St. Paul (3-1) last weekend
  • The Wildcats are one of three teams who went 0-2 in the first weekend of NSIC play
  • WSC is led in points by Reagan Allen, Haley Hoffman, and Abby Sutton who have all scored one goal on the season; Cleo Johnson has recorded the only assist for Wayne State through five games
  • Sidney Truman leads the Wildcats with 27 saves in four starts, while Hayden Wallace holds a team high save percentage of 0.889 with 8 saves in one start
  • Emily Hester is in her second season as the head coach at Wayne State, holding a career record of 6-12-5

 

LAST MATCH-UP

  • The Wolves defeated the Wildcats 2-1 in Wayne, Neb., last year thanks to a pair of second half goals from Megan Fastenau and Lilja Davidsdottir

AUGUSTANA STORYLINES

  • Augustana enters this weekend looking to regroup following a slow start to the season with a record of 1-3-1 (1-1 NSIC), the Vikings are currently tied for seventh in the NSIC standings
  • The Vikings earned a road victory at Concordia-St. Paul (1-0) before falling at Minnesota State (4-2) in the opening weekend of NSIC action
  • Morgan Keirstead leads Augie with four points and two goals this season, while Kelly Kleekamp leads the Vikings with two assists
  • Jillian Barkus has started all five games in goal for AU, grabbing 20 saves with a 0.714 save percentage and has recorded one shutout
  • Brandon Barkus is in his 17th season as the head coach at Augustana and 20th season overall in women’s collegiate soccer, he holds a record of 170-106-31 during his time with the Vikings and a career record of 198-130-33
