Aberdeen, S.D. – The Northern State University softball team closed out their 2022 campaign with a home spilt against Upper Iowa. The Wolves tallied a win and game one and tied things in the bottom of the seventh in game two, however were unable to record the sweep in extras.

HOW IT HAPPENED GAME 1

• Upper Iowa scored first in the top of the first and the Wolves answered back with the lead in the second
• Hannah Smith doubled to right center, scoring Alexandria Arndt, and Jessi Hernandez singled to center, scoring Smith
• Northern tacked on another five runs in the bottom of the fourth, taking a 7-1 lead
• Shelby Novotny walked with the bases loaded, scoring Elly Smith to kick off the scoring in the fourth
• Liv Richardson then stepped to the plate and blasted her ninth homerun of the season, a grand slam scoring Novotny, Ashley Fauske, and Hernandez
• The Peacocks tallied three more runs in the sixth, but were unable to tie the contest
• NSU scored their seven runs on seven hits, giving up one error defensively
• Meghan Anderson threw her ninth win of the season with six strikeouts

HOW IT HAPPENED GAME 2

• The two team's were scoreless through the first four innings of play, with each squad notching one run apiece in the fifth
• Ashley Fauske singled in Hannah Smith for the Wolves in the bottom of the frame
• The Peacocks took their second lead of the contest in the sixth, notching two runs
• Liv Richardson tied the game for Northern in the bottom of the seventh, on a single down the left field line, which scored Fauske and Brooke Carlson
• Upper Iowa tallied two runs in the top of the eighth and held the Wolves in the bottom of the frame to secure the win
• Northern scored their three runs on 11 hits, giving up three errors defensively
