Cole Huss led the Northern State University wrestling team from the opening day of the NCAA Championships, advancing to the semifinal round. All three Wolves in competition recorded at least one win on the day with Huss clinching All-American honors.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Turnquist went 1-2 at 149 pounds, finishing his year with a 20-5 record overall
- He opened with a well fought 3-2 decision loss to top seeded Isiah Royal of Newberry
- The junior then tallied a 7-2 win over Jake Piccirilli of UNC Pembroke
- The Winner native closed out the day with a 7-4 decision loss to Jason Hanenberg of Western Colorado
- Cacek tallied a 2-2 record at 184 pounds, concluding his season with an 11-5 record overall
- He recorded a 7-1 decision victory over Logan Hall of Notre Dame in his opening round pigtail
- The sophomore added a 4-3 decision victory against JaQuez Bostic of Limestone is his second match of the morning
- Cacek fell to top seeded Connor Craig of West Liberty in a quarterfinal 4-1 decision loss and was knocked out of the tournament with a 4-3 decision loss to 7-seed Anderson Salisbury of Colorado Mines
- Huss finished the day 2-0, advancing to Saturday's semifinals
- The junior notched an upset victory over the seventh seed, Joel Leise of Gannon, in the sudden victory round with a score of 3-1
- He tallied another clutch victory in the 197 pound quarterfinals, beating 2-seed Noah Ryan of St. Cloud State, 6-4 in overtime
- Huss avenged his Super Region V Championship loss to Ryan and recorded his second upset of the day
