NWCA Releases First Regular Season Poll, Northern Sits at No. 20

Manheim, Pa. - The National Wrestling Coaches Association released to the first regular season poll of the 2022-23 season today with Northern State University coming in at No. 20 in NCAA Division II. In addition, two Wolves landed on the individual rankings in their respective weight classes.
 
Northern recorded 20 total team points and is tied at No. 20 with NSIC rival Minnesota State. The Wolves are joined by in-region opponents No. 1 St. Cloud State, No. 8 Augustana, No. 11 Parkside, No. 20 Minnesota State, No. 21 University of Mary, No. 23 Southwest Minnesota State, (RV) Upper Iowa, and (RV) Minot State.
 
Both Wyatt Turnquist and Cole Huss remained in the top-12 from the preseason poll, with Turnquist moving up to No. 7 at 149 pounds and Huss holding steady at No. 3 in the 197 pound class. Turnquist holds a 2-0 record this season, including an upset victory over Brik Filippo of Central Oklahoma, the previous third ranked wrestler. Huss is 1-1 on the year with his lone loss coming via decision to No. 1 Dalton Abney of Central Oklahoma.
 
The pair and the Wolves take on the 11th ranked Rangers tonight in Kenosha.
